Evidence-Based Practices in Postpartum Hemorrhage

One quarter of the maternal deaths in the world occur due to postpartum haemorrhage. The implementation of the attempts for the prevention of the postpartum haemorrhage with the early diagnosis and the provision of treatment can decrease significantly the morbidity and mortality rates. The prevention of the postpartum haemorrhage and the provision of the treatment are possible by the improvement of the care given during the postpartum period and by the use of evidence –based clinical practice. During this period; implementing uterotonics, making controlled cord traction, uterine massage, procedures for the placenta and uterine and the use of medical protocols are the primary methods used for prevention and treatment of haemorrhage. In this review the evidence–based practices intending the prevention and treatment of the postpartum haemorrhage were discussed according to the level of evidence published by the World Health Organization.
