Examining the Level of Social Support and Loneliness of Health Science High School Students

This descriptive study was planned and applied to determine the related factors with the levels of social support and loneliness of school of health students. The universe of the study consisted of 503 students are currently studying at Istanbul Health Science High School of a foundation university Data were collected using a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and the UCLA Loneliness Scale between February 8 to February 13 2016. Before the study, permission was taken from the school and during the study it was taken from students. The mean MSPSS score was 65.7±15.4, the mean scores of loneliness was 36.5±8.2. It was found that there was a negative correlation relationship between the social support and loneliness levels (p<0.05) and the correlation relationship between the loneliness level and social support sources (family, friends and a special person) was also found to be negative. It was identified, maternal educatıon level with loneliness level between statistical meaningfulness and grade level with social support level between statistical meaningfulness (p<0.05). It is concluded that the level MSPSS of students is high, the loneliness level of them is low.

Sağlık Bilimleri Yüksekokulu Öğrencilerinin Sosyal Destek ve Yalnızlık Durumlarının Değerlendirilmesi

Öz

Araştırma, Sağlık Yüksekokulu öğrencilerinin algıladıkları sosyal destek ve yalnızlık düzeyleri ile ilişkili faktörleri incelemek amacıyla betimleyici olarak planlanmış ve uygulanmıştır. Araştırmaya İstanbul’da bulunan bir vakıf üniversitesinin Sağlık Bilimleri Yüksekokulu’nda okuyan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden toplam 503 öğrenci dahil edilmiştir. Veriler, 08–13 Şubat 2016 tarihleri arasında öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özelliklerini içeren bilgi formu Çok Boyutlu Algılanan Sosyal Destek Ölçeği (MSPSS) ve UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Araştırma öncesinde ilgili kurumdan yazılı izin ve öğrencilerden sözel onam alınmıştır. Öğrencilerin algılanan sosyal destek toplam puan ortalaması 65.7±15.4, yalnızlık düzeyi toplam puan ortalaması 36.5±8.2’dir. Sosyal destek ile yalnızlık düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkisinin ve yalnızlık düzeyi ile sosyal destek kaynakları (aile, arkadaş ve özel insan) arasındaki ilişkisinin negatif yönlü olduğu saptanmıştır. Anne eğitim düzeyi ile yalnızlık arasında; öğrenim gördükleri sınıf ile de sosyal destek puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlılık saptanmıştır (p<0.05). Öğrencilerin algılanan sosyal destek düzeylerinin yüksek, yalnızlık düzeylerinin düşük olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
