Hemşirelik Öğrencilerinin Basınç Ülseri Önlemeye Yönelik Bilgi ve Uygulamaları

Öz

Amaç: Bu araştırmada son sınıf hemşirelik öğrencilerinin basınç ülserini önlemeye yönelik bilgi ve uygulamalarını değerlendirmek amaçlandı.
Gereç ve Yöntemler: Tanımlayıcı tipteki bu araştırmanın örneklemini, bir üniversitenin hemşirelik bölümünde öğrenim gören 99 son sınıf hemşirelik öğrencisi oluşturdu. Araştırma verileri, tanıtıcı özellikler soru formu ve Basınç Ülseri Önlemede Bilgi Değerlendirme Ölçeği (BÜÖBDÖ) ile toplandı. Veriler; sayı, ortalama, yüzdelik dağılımlar ve bağımsız örneklem t testi ile değerlendirildi.
Bulgular: Araştırmamıza katılan öğrencilerin yaş ortalaması 21,95±1,38 yıldı. Öğrencilerin %70,7'si hastane uygulamaları sırasında basınç ülserli hasta ile karşılaştığını, yarısı (%52,5) basınç ülseri hastanın bakımına katıldığını ifade etti. Öğrencilerin %69,7'si basınç ülseri bakımında ne kullanıldığını bilmediğini belirtti. Öğrencilerin %75,8'i basınç ülserlerini önlemeye yönelik eğitim almak istediğini belirtirken, %25,3’ü basınç ülserlerini önlemeye yönelik gelişmeleri takip ettiğini ifade etti. Öğrencilerin basınç ülseri riskini belirlemeye yönelik puan ortalamalarının (4,30±1,97) ve önlemeye yönelik puan ortalamalarının (4,38±1,12) düşük olduğu belirlendi. Öğrencilerin ortalama basınç ülseri önleme bilgi puanı 9,46±3,08'dir (%36,5; min-maks= 2-16). Yalnızca iki öğrenci kabul edilebilir yeterlilik olan 16 ve daha fazla soruya (%60) doğru yanıt vermiştir. En yüksek puanın (0,54±0,50) BÜÖBDÖ’nin beslenme temasından alındığı saptandı.
Sonuç: Araştırma bulguları, hemşire adaylarının basınç ülseri gelişimini önlemeye yönelik bilgi durumlarının yetersiz olduğunu ortaya koydu. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin basınç ülserlerini önlemeye yönelik bilgi ve uygulamalarının güçlendirilmesi, güvenli hasta bakımı uygulamalarının sağlanabilmesi için önemli bir gerekliliktir.

Knowledge and Practices of Nursing Students on Pressure Ulcer Prevention

Öz

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and practices of nursing students to prevent pressure ulcers.
Material and Methods: The sample of this descriptive study was consisted of 99 senior nursing students studying at a university nursing school. Data were collected with a questionnaire including students’ sociodemographic characteristics and the Pressure Ulcer Prevention Knowledge Assessment Instrument (PUPKAI). The data were interpreted as numbers, means, and percentage distributions, and independed sample t test.
Results: The mean age of the sample was 21.95±1.38 years (range: 20–27 years). 70.7% of students reported that they encountered patients with pressure ulcer during hospital practices and approximately half (52.5%) participated in pressure ulcer care applications. 69.7% of the students stated that they are not aware of the pressure ulcers care in clinical practice. 75.8% of them wanted to receive education about preventing pressure ulcers; whereas 25.3% of them follow developments about pressure ulcers. The mean scores of the students on determining and preventing pressure ulcer risk were 4.30±1.97 and 4.38±1.12, respectively. The average pressure ulcers prevention knowledge score was 9.46±3.08 (36.5%; range 2–16). Only two students provided correct answers to 16 (60%) or more questions, which is the requirement to demonstrate a sufficient level of knowledge. It was determined that the highest score (0.54±0.50) was obtained from the nutrition theme of the PUPKAI.
Conclusion: The research found that nursing candidates lacked sufficient knowledge of how to prevent pressure ulcers. It is crucial that their understanding of pressure ulcers and how to prevent them be improved in order to ensure safe patient care practices.
