Environmental impacts of the climatic regime in aegean plains (Western Anatolia)

In the western part of the Aegean region there exist alluvial plains formed by the tectonic movements. The general appearance o f the topography extends from the west to the east, and the plains surrounded by uplands and major muontain masses. Various agricultural activities carried out in the plains and the urbanization have been developed in a rapid manner. Though, in all the plains the natural systems functioning, potential productivity and human activities are affected by the climatic conditions. Mediterranean climatic regime prevails in every part of the region, and in fact, the climate is the major factor determining all the activities carried out in the plains. Some differences and deviations in the climatic conditions, which are distinguished, caused to some important results. It is the climate o f a locality restricts the activities and in various plains o f the region has a marked effect upon environmental elements (I.e. vegetations, soils and hidrology), rural and urban settlements.
