Social Mentality Theory

Yıl 2023, Cilt: 13 Sayı: 15, 77 - 88

Öz

Social Mentality Theory (SMT) emphasizes the evolutionary basis of individuals’ reactions in their social relations. SMT suggests that process of evolution generates internal systems (social mentalities) regarding biosocial motives like care giving, competing for social status, seeling alliances etc. and these mentalities enable the formation and interpretation of various social roles such as care giver, care seeker, competitive, cooperation seeker. In this study, four basic social mentalities were discussed: care giving mentality, care seeking/taking mentality, social rank (competitive) mentality and cooperation mentality. Within this scope, the behavioral characteristics of individuals and their reactions to various social situations are summarized in the line with their current mentalities. It is thought that this study will contribute to the literature in terms of understanding the nature of counselees’ social relationships, defining their needs in these relationships and determining the underlying motives of their emotional and behavioral reactions in social situations.

Sosyal Zihniyet Kuramı

Yıl 2023, Cilt: 13 Sayı: 15, 77 - 88

Öz

Sosyal Zihniyet Kuramı, kişilerin sosyal ilişkilerinde verdikleri tepkilerin evrimsel temellerine vurguda bulunarak yavruya bakım verme, sosyal statü için rekabet etme, birlik olma gibi biyososyal güdüler doğrultusunda insanların beyinlerinde belli zihinsel sistemlerin (sosyal zihiyetler) geliştiğini, bu sosyal zihniyetlerin bakım alan, bakım veren, iş birlikçi ve rekabetçi gibi çeşitli sosyal rollerin oluşumuna ve yorumlanmasına olanak sağladığını ortaya koymaktadır. Bu çalışmada dört temel sosyal zihniyet olan bakım verme zihniyeti, bakım arama/alma zihniyeti, sosyal sıralama/rekabetçi zihniyet ve iş birlikçi zihniyet ele alınmıştır. Bu çerçevede, ilgili zihniyetlerin evrimsel temelleri vurgulanarak içinde bulunulan zihniyet doğrultusunda bireylerin davranış özellikleri ve çeşitli durumlara verdikleri tepkiler özetlenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın terapi sürecinde danışanların sosyal ilişkilerinin doğasının anlaşılması, bu ilişkilerdeki ihtiyaçlarının tanımlanması, duygusal ve davranışsal tepkilerinin altında yatan güdülerinin belirlenmesi ve danışmanların danışanlarının içinde bulundukları sosyal zihniyetlere dair farkındalıklarının artması açısından alan yazına katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.
