The Relationship Between Technostress Levels and Attitudes Toward Change Among Nurses and Doctors in a Hospital Undergoing Digital Transformation

Öz

ABSTRACT Objective: This study examines the relationship between techno-stress levels and attitudes against change among nurses and doctors in a hospital undergoing digital transformation. Methods: The study employed a descriptive and correlational research design. The research population consisted of 166 nurses and doctors from a public hospital in Ankara/Türkiye. A final sample size of 120 participants was selected through random sampling. Descriptive Information Form, the Attitude Against Change Scale, and the Techno-Stress at Work Scale were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using a range of statistical tests including descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, Kruskal Wallis tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, Pearson correlation analysis, and stepwise regression analysis. Results: The findings indicated that nurses and doctors experienced above-medium levels of techno-stress due to technological change. The attitudes of nurses and doctors towards change were below the medium level; that is, they had negative attitudes. A significant negative relationship was found between attitudes toward change and techno-stress levels (r=-0.563, p<.001). Participants who had worked in the institution for 11 years or more exhibited more positive attitudes toward change than those with shorter tenure. No significant differences in techno-stress levels were observed concerning age, sex, occupation, or unit. Regression analysis revealed that institutional policy, resistance to change, management style in change, and results of change collectively explained 47% of the variance in techno-stress levels. Conclusion: The study highlights the importance of including healthcare professionals in the technological change process and providing adequate training to mitigate techno-stress and foster positive attitudes toward change. Effective change management strategies are essential to ensure a successful digital transformation in healthcare institutions. Keywords: Change management, digital hospital, doctor, nurse, techno-stress.
