RETINOPATHY OF PREMATURITY AND NURSING APPROACHES

Öz

Retinopathy of prematurity ROP , an ocu/ar disease characterized by onset of vascular abnormalities in the developing retina, is the major cause of visua/ impairment and blindness. ROP prevention programs shou/d include measures aimed at both primary and secondary prevention: Primary prevention of ROP invo/ves quality improvement involving obstetric, delivery room, and neona tal care. Secondary prevention of ROP involves agreeing criteria for, and providing the means to achieve, case detection screening and treatment. This article wi/1 focus on the nurse's responsibility in prenatal, postnatal screening and treatment of ROP's
