Öz: The individual and social changes experienced with the increase in the elderly population in the world cause many problems in the biopsychosocial field. The biggest risk that comes with increasing problems is the risk of suicide. Psychiatric nurses often serve elderly individuals in preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative mental health services. Psychiatric nurses who care for elderly individuals with a holistic understanding should recognize the risk factors for the elderly and provide the care they need. It is of vital importance to recognize the risk of suicide, which is a vital risk, and to take precautions in the early period. For this reason, it is important for psychiatric nurses to have knowledge about risk factors, protective factors, warning signs and preventive interventions related to elderly suicide. In addition, it can be said that the field of geropsychiatry nursing, which provides services in the field of mental health of elderly individuals, is not sufficiently developed. In this context, the literature is discussed in order to provide information about elderly suicide, to raise awareness about the roles and responsibilities of psychiatric nursing in studies on suicide prevention, and to refer to the importance of geropsychiatric nursing.

Yaşlı İntiharları ve Psikiyatri Hemşireliği

Başlık: Yaşlı İntiharları Ve Psikiyatri Hemşireliği

Öz: Dünyada yaşlı nüfusunun artışı ile yaşanan bireysel ve toplumsal değişiklikler, beraberinde biyopsikososyal alanda pek çok soruna neden olmaktadır. Artan sorunların beraberinde getirdiği en büyük risk intihar riskidir. Psikiyatri hemşireleri koruyucu, tedavi edici ve rehabilite edici ruh sağlığı hizmetlerinde yaşlı bireylere sıklıkla hizmet vermektedir. Bütüncül bir anlayış ile yaşlı bireylere bakım veren psikiyatri hemşirelerinin, yaşlı birey açısından risk faktörlerini tanıması ve gereksinim olan bakımı sunması gerekir. Özellikle yaşamsal bir risk olan intihar riskini tanıması ve erken dönemde önlem alması hayati öneme sahiptir. Bu nedenle psikiyatri hemşireleri, yaşlı intiharları ile ilgili risk etmenleri, koruyucu faktörler, uyarıcı işaretler ve önleyici müdahaleler konularında bilgi sahibi olması önemlidir. Ayrıca yaşlı bireylerin ruh sağlığı alanında hizmet veren geropsikiyatri hemşireliği uzmanlık alanının yeterince gelişmediği söylenebilir. Bu bağlamda alanyazının yaşlı intiharı konusunda bilgi vermek, intiharı önleme ile ilgili çalışmalarda psikiyatri hemşireliğinin rol ve sorumlulukları konusunda farkındalık oluşturmak, geropsikiyatri hemşireliğinin önemine atıfta bulunmak amacıyla ele alınmıştır.
