A Research on Cane Used in Bassoon Reed-Making and the Factors Affecting the Quality of the Bassoon Reed

The development process of bassoon covers approximately 400 years until today. Although this process is seen as a structural development process of the instrument, it is a process in which the acoustic properties of the instrument progress depending on the techniques of reed making. Researches on the development of the instrument have generally revealed the structural and pedagogical aspects of the instrument; on the other hand, reed making has constituted only a small part of these researches. The fact that such an important piece that creates the vibration of the instrument stayed in the background in this process, has brought many problems up to now. Researches on the production of bassoon reed are generally on the scraping of the cane and creating the appropriate vibration. In this study, the structural features of the cane, which emerge as an important deficiency in bassoon reed-making, and the factors affecting the quality of bassoon reed have been investigated. The density and hardness values of the cane are among the most important factors determining the quality of the bassoon reed. These factors may vary depending on the climate in which the plant is grown, soil, irrigation, fertilization, age of the harvested plant and harvest time. For this reason, before the bassoon reed is made, it is necessary to examine the material and to make the instrument by sticking to the resulting data.

FAGOT KAMIŞI YAPIMINDA KARGI KAMIŞININ İNCELENMESİ VE FAGOT KAMIŞININ KALİTESİNİ ETKİLEYEN FAKTÖRLER

Öz

Fagotun gelişim süreci günümüze kadar yaklaşık olarak 400 yılı kapsar. Bu süreç, çalgının yapısal olarak gelişim süreci olarak görülmesine rağmen, çalgının akustik özelliklerinin kamış yapımı tekniklerine bağlı olarak ilerlediği bir süreçtir. Çalgının gelişimi üzerine yapılan araştırmalar genellikle çalgının yapısal ve pedagojik yönlerini ortaya koymuş, kamış yapımı ise bu araştırmaların çok az bir kısmını oluşturmuştur. Çalgının titreşimini yaratan böylesine önemli bir parçanın bu süreçte ikinci planda kalması, günümüze kadar birçok sorunu da beraberinde getirmiştir. Fagot kamış yapımı üzerine yapılan araştırmalar genellikle kargı kamışının kazınması ve uygun titreşimi yaratması üzerinedir. Bu çalışmada, fagot kamışı yapımında önemli bir eksiklik olarak ortaya çıkan kargı kamışının yapısal özellikleri ve fagot kamışının kalitesini etkileyen faktörler araştırılmıştır. Kargının kamışının yoğunluk ve sertlik değerleri fagot kamışının kalitesini belirleyen en önemli etmenlerdendir. Bu etmenler bitkinin yetiştiği iklim, toprak, sulama, gübreleme, hasat edilen bitkinin yaşı ve hasat zamanına bağlı olarak değişiklik gösterebilir. Bu nedenle fagot kamışının yapılmadan önce malzemenin incelenmesi ve ortaya çıkan verilere bağlı kalarak yapılması gerekir.
