Effects of Different Land Use on Some Soil Properties in Adıyaman Province

Öz

This study was carried out to examine the effects of different land use on soil properties (aggregate stability, bulk density, organic matter and infiltration rates) in Kömür, Kuyucak and Ormaniçi villages in Adıyaman province. The lands subject to the study were selected in 3 different fields, respectively, irrigated agricultural lands with intensive animal manure and tobacco cultivation, orchards and dry agricultural lands that only use rain water. When the soil properties were examined, the infiltration rate differed significantly according to the importance level of all groups (P <0.05) and the highest infiltration rate was measured in the irrigated agricultural land (134.00 cm hour-1). The infiltration rate of the soils were determined as irrigated agricultural land > non-irrigated agricultural land > orchard, respectively. Bulk density differed significantly according to the importance level of all groups (P <0.05) and the highest bulk density was determined in orchards (1.52 g cm-3) and the lowest (1.01 g cm-3) in irrigated agricultural lands. Bulk density of the soils were determined as orchard > non-irrigated agricultural land > irrigated agricultural land, respectively. The aggregate stability was measured in the irrigated agricultural lands, where all groups differed significantly according to the importance level (P <0.05) and the highest (67.33%). Organic matter levels of the soils differed significantly according to the importance level of all groups (P <0.05) and the highest (2.72%) was measured in irrigated agricultural lands. Organic matter levels of the soils are respectively determined as irrigated agricultural land > non-irrigated agricultural land > orchard, respectively. Soils showed that a moderately alkaline reaction (pH). In terms of electrical conductivity average values of soils, there is no salinity problem in the soils and the soils have high level of calcareous. While the use of high rate of animal manure in irrigated agricultural land increased the aggregate stability, infiltration rate and organic matter level of the soils, it decreased the bulk density of the soils. Implementation of sustainable land use management and improvements in land use have become a necessity for the preservation of sustainable soil quality. Thus, it is thought that, with a good planning, the yield level to be obtained from the agricultural lands that will be opened to irrigation in the future can be increased.
