A Qualitative Research on Negotiation Preparations Before Professional Football Player Transfers

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the preparations of the people responsible for the transfer in the professional football player transfers in the sports clubs that operate in professional football. Semi-structured interview technique, which is a qualitative research method, was used in the study. Interviews were held between December 2020 and February 2021. The sample group of the study consists of 23 people who have worked or are still working in sports clubs that operate professionally in the Turkish Football Federation. Snowball sampling method was used as the sample selection. The views of the participants were transcribed and quoted one by one, and they were gathered under 3 main themes: "preparations made before transfer negotiations", "knowing about the other party" and "determining the ceiling and base wages before transfer negotiations". The findings obtained as a result of the opinions of the participants were analyzed within the framework of the literature. As a result of the study, it was determined that the negotiation preparations of the persons responsible for the transfer in the professional football clubs differ according to the league levels, and that the persons responsible for the transfer have deficiencies in the preparations for the negotiation. With the evaluation of these, it has been concluded that the knowledge of the persons responsible for the transfer on the preparations for negotiations can be improved with the trainings on this subject.

Profesyonel Futbolcu Transferlerinden Önce Yapılan Müzakere Hazırlıkları Üzerine Nitel Bir Araştırma

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı profesyonel futbol faaliyeti gösteren spor kulüplerinde transferden sorumlu kişilerin, profesyonel futbolcu transferlerinde gerçekleştirdikleri müzakere hazırlıklarının incelenmesidir. Çalışmada nitel bir araştırma yöntemi olan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği kullanılmıştır. Görüşmeler Aralık 2020 tarihi ve Şubat 2021 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın örneklem grubunu Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu’na bağlı profesyonel futbol faliyeti gösteren spor kulüplerinde transferden sorumlu olarak çalışmış veya halen çalışmakta olan 23 kişi oluşturmaktadır. Kartopu örneklem yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Katılımcıların görüşleri transkripsiyon yapılarak birebir alıntılanmış, “transfer görüşmeleri öncesi yapılan hazırlıklar”, “karşı taraf hakkında bilgi sahibi olma” ve “transfer görüşmeleri öncesinde tavan ve taban ücretlerin belirlenmesi” olmak üzere 3 ana tema altında toplanmıştır. Katılımcıların görüşleri sonucunda elde edilen bulgular literatür çerçevesinde çözümlenmiştir. Çalışmanın sonucu olarak, profesyonel futbol kulüplerinde transferden sorumlu kişilerin futbolcu transferlerinde gerçekleştirdikleri müzakere hazırlıklarının lig seviyelerine göre farklılık gösterdiği ve transferden sorumlu kişilerin müzakere hazırlıkları konusunda eksiklerinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bunların değerlendirilmesi ile birlikte, transferden sorumlu kişilerin, müzakere hazırlıkları konusundaki bilgilerinin, bu konudaki eğitimler ile birlikte geliştirilebileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
