Fumigant toxicity of some plant essential oils to Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae)

The fumigant toxicity of five plant essential oils (Foeniculum vulgare Miller, Lavandula stoechas L., Thymbra spicata L., Teucrium polium L. and Heracleum platytaenium Boiss.) were tested on Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say) (Col.: Bruchidae) under laboratory conditions. Single dose (100 µl/L) of plant essential oils were initially tested on adult stage of A. obtectus. The greatest fumigant toxicity against A. obtectus was seen with F. vulgare essential oil, followed by T. spicata and L. stoechas essential oils. In the dose response bioassays with F. vulgare, T. spicata and L. stoechas, the calculated LC₅₀ values were 22,3 µl/L, 32,4 µl/L and 46,3 µl/L respectively. The main components of plant essential oils of three plants showing high response were determined by GC-MS analysis. F. vulgare essential oil’s main components were anisole (79%) and L-Fenchone (13%). T. spicata and L. stoechas contain L-Fenchone (55%, 57%), Camphor (24%, 24%) and Eucalyptol (13%, 13%) respectively. Main components L-Fenchone and Camphor caused about 100% mortality at 80 µl/L dose in 48 hours. The results indicate that F. vulgare essential oil or its components may have a potential in controlling of A. obtectus.

Bazı bitki uçucu yağlarının Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) üzerindeki fumigant toksisiteleri

Bu çalışmada 5 farklı bitkiden [Foeniculum vulgare (Rezene), Lavandula stoechas (karabaşotu), Thymbra spicata (Karabaş Kekiği), Teucrium polium (adi yavşanotu), Heracleum platytaenium] elde edilen uçucu yağlarının Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say) (Col.:Bruchidae) (Fasulye Tohum Böceği) üzerine olan fumigant toksisiteleri laboratuvar koşullarında test edilmiştir. Yapılan çalışmada, bitkilerden elde edilen uçucu yağlar fasulye tohum böceğinin erginlerine karşı uygulanmıştır. Yapılan tek doz fumigant etki denemelerinde (100 µl/L) en yüksek fumigant toksisite F. vulgare bitkisinden elde edilen uçucu yağlarda gözlenmiş, bunu T. spicata ve L. stoechas bitkilerinden elde edilen uçucu yağlar takip etmiştir. Çalışmanın ikinci kısmında yürütülen doz-etki denemeleri sonucunda LC₅₀ değerleri F.vulgare için 22,3 µl/L, T. spicata için 32,4 µl/L ve L. stoechas için 46,3 µl/L olarak hesaplanmıştır. Yüksek etki gösteren üç bitkinin uçucu yağlarının ana bileşenleri GS-MS analizi ile belirlenmiştir. F. vulgare bitkisinin ana bileşenlerinin anisole (%79) ve L-Fenchone (%13), T. spicata ve L. stoechas bitkileri uçucu yağlarının ana bileşenlerinin sırasıyla L-Fenchone (%55, %57), Camphor (%24, %24) ve Eucalyptol (%13, %13) den oluştuğu belirlenmiştir. Ana bileşenlerden L-Fenchone ve Camphor 80 µl/L dozda 48 saat sonunda %100 oranında ölüme neden olduğu saptanmıştır. Çalışma sonuçları özellikle F. vulgare uçucu yağı veya bileşenlerinin fasulye tohum böceğinin mücadelesinde kullanma potansiyeline sahip olabileceğini göstermiştir.
