Pest status and prevalence of Tomato moth Tuta absoluta (Meyrick 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) in tomato growing greenhouses of Mersin

Abstract

Survey study was carried out in tomato greenhouses of Mersin province during autumn 2009 (september-january) and spring 2010 (february-june) in order to determine the pest status and prevalence of Tomato moth, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) a new pest for Turkey. In each greenhouse randomly chosen at least 20 plants were controlled successively. Galleries drilled by T. absoluta were searched, plant was registered as infected, if larvae found. A total of 262 greenhouses from 3 locations (Adanalıoğlu, Kazanlı and Kocahasanlı) were checked weekly. No T. absoluta was recorded in any 82 greenhouses checked during Autumn 2009 season. T. absoluta was recorded for the first time on 29th April 2010 in a tomato greenhouse in Adanalıoğlu location. After that date the pest was spread out very fast and recorded in 72 of totally 88 greenhouses checked in Adanalıoğlu, Kazanlı and Kocahasanlı during Spring 2010 season. While infested plant rate was low in first week of may, than after increased in late may and early june. The higher infested tomato fruit rate per plant was recorded as 38.4 %.

Mersin ili domates seralarında Domates yaprak galeri güvesi Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)’nın yaygınlığı ve zarar durumu

Öz

Türkiye için yeni bir zararlı olan Domates yaprak galeri güvesi Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)’nın Mersin ili domates seralarındaki yaygınlığı ve zarar durumunu belirlemek amacıyla 2009 yılı güz (eylül-ocak) ve 2010 yılı bahar (şubat-haziran) sezonlarında sörvey çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Bitkilerde T. absoluta’nın açtığı galeriler aranmış ve üzerinde zararlının larvası bulunan bitki bulaşık olarak kaydedilmiştir. Her serada tesadüfi olarak ardışık en az 20 bitki kontrol edilmiştir. Çalışma süresince 3 beldeden (Adanalıoğlu, Kazanlı ve Kocahasanlı) toplam 262 sera haftalık aralıklarla kontrol edilmiştir. 2009 yılı güz sezonunda kontrol edilen toplam 82 adet seranın hiç birinde T. absoluta’ya rastlanılmamıştır. T. absoluta ilk defa 29 Nisan 2010 tarihinde Adanalıoğlu beldesinde bir domates serasında bulunmuştur. Bu tarihten sonra zararlı hızla yayılmış, Adanalıoğlu, Kazanlı ve Kocahasanlı beldelerinde örneklenen toplam 88 adet seranın 72 adetinde T. absoluta’ya rastlanılmıştır. Mersin ili domates seralarında mayıs ayının ilk haftalarında düşük olan yüzde bulaşık bitki oranı mayıs ayı sonu ile haziran ayı başında artmıştır. T. absoluta larvalarının neden olduğu bitki başına vuruk meyve oranı ise en yüksek % 38.4 olarak bulunmuştur.
