Öz

Enerji
tüketimi ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkiyi anlamak, hedeflenen
sürdürülebilir ekonomik büyümenin devamlılığını sağlamak adına önemli bir
husustur.

Understanding the relationship between energy
consumption and economic growth is an important issue to ensure the persistence
of the targeted sustainable economic growth. The importance of energy in
economic development and sustaining renewable and consumable energy sources is
triggered the empirical examination of causal relation between energy
consumption and economic growth. To this end this study examines the causality
and cointegration relationship between alternative and nuclear energy
consumption and economic growth for the period 1970-2015 in France. The
Johansen cointegration results indicate that the variables are cointegrated in
the long-run. The Toda-Yamamoto causality results, on the other hand, indicate
unidirectional causality running from alternative and nuclear energy to
economic growth. This result reveals the necessity of energy consumption for
sustainable growth in France. As a result of this finding, which supports the
growth hypothesis that decrease in energy consumption decreases growth, it is
clear that the energy saving policies implemented by policy makers to reduce
nuclear energy consumption will have negative effects on economic growth in
France.
