Competitive Power of Uzbekistan in Copper Industry: A Comparative Analysis with Selected Countries

Öz

The copper industry is an essential part of the Uzbek economy. The copper industry is essential in terms of employment and exports. Today, copper is an essential export item in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan’s exports of copper have been increased more than six times from $78 million to $586 million in the last 15 years. Copper exports accounted for 6.7% of total merchandise exports in Uzbekistan. The objective of this study is to determine the competitive power of the Uzbek copper industry. In this study, used Balassa’s Revealed Comparative Advantage index and Lafay’s index. The study used International Trade Centre statistical data for the period 2001-2017. A study found that Uzbekistan has a reliable, competitive power in the copper industry.
