The Persistence of Profitability and Competition in the Turkish Banking Sector

Öz

Rekabetin dinamikleri ve karlılık farklılıkların belirleyenlerini konu alan, 'karlılığın sürekliliği' (KS) metodolojisi yardımı ile firmaların getiri oranlarının zaman serisi analizini içeren ampirik literatür hızlı bir şekilde gelişmektedir. Bununla birlikte, bu literatür genel olarak finansal sektör dışındaki sektörlerde odaklanmış ve KS metodolojini bankacılık gibi finans sektörüne uygulayan çalışmaların sayısı oldukça sınırlıdır. Bu çalışma, Türk bankacılık sektörü için, karlılığın sürekliliğinin zaman serisi analizinden ve bankalar arası karlılık farklılıklarını karlılığın sürekliliği ile ilişkilendiren regresyon analizinden elde edilen bulguları içermektedir. Bu konudaki önceki çalışmalardan farklı olarak bu çalışmada sunulan ampirik bulgular, karların kısa dönem sürekliliğinin ılımlı olduğunu ve uzun dönemde aşırı karların kaybolduğunu ve haliyle sektördeki rekabetin oldukça yüksek olduğunu göstermektedir
