The Relationship Between Coronaphobia and Physical Activity Level, Fatigue and Rumination in Healthy Young Adults

Öz

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the relationship of perceived coronaphobia levels on physical activity, fatigue, and rumination in healthy young adults. Material and Methods: The study involved 230 students enrolled at Süleyman Demirel University. Coronaphobia was assessed using the Coronavirüs-19 Phobia Scale; physical activity was measured using the International Physical Activity Scale; fatigue was evaluated using the Lockdown Fatigue Scale and rumination was assessed using the Ruminasyon Scale. Results: While a positive correlation was found between the physical activity score and coronaphobia scores (r=0.071), there was no significant correlation with pandemic fatigue scale scores (r=0.005). However, a positive and significant correlation was observed between the physical activity score and rumination scores (r=0.195; p<0.05). Significant correlations were also found between coronaphobia scores and pandemic fatigue scale, as well as rumination scores (r=0.527 p<0.05; r=0.368 p<0.05, respectively). Conclusion: The study examined the relationship between coronaphobia, physical activity level, fatigue, and rumination in healthy young adults. As coronaphobia increased, rumination and perceived fatigue levels increased, leading to an inclination towards higher levels of physical activity. The findings of the study emphasize the significance of identifying coping strategies to manage coronaphobia and rumination for effective control.

Sağlıklı Gençlerde Koronafobi ile Fiziksel Aktivite Düzeyi, Yorgunluk ve Ruminasyon Arasındaki İlişki

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışma, sağlıklı genç yetişkinlerde algılanan koronafobi düzeyinin fiziksel aktivite, yorgunluk ve ruminasyon ile ilişkisini araştırmayı amaçlamaktadır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi'nde eğitim gören 230 öğrenci katıldı. Koronafobi, Koronavirüs-19 Fobisi Ölçeği ile; fiziksel aktivite, Uluslararası Fiziksel Aktivite Skalası ile; yorgunluk, Salgına Bağlı Kapanma Yorgunluk Ölçeği ile ve ruminasyon, Ruminasyon Ölçeği ile değerlendirildi. Sonuçlar: Fiziksel aktivite skoru ile koronafobi puanları arasında pozitif yönlü (r=0,071), salgına bağlı kapanma yorgunluk ölçeği puanı ile negatif yönlü (r=0,005) bir ilişki bulunmasına rağmen anlamlı bir korelasyon yoktur. Fiziksel aktivite skoru ile ruminasyon puanları arasında pozitif ve anlamlı bir korelasyon bulunmuştur (r=0,195; p<0,05). Koronafobi puanları ile salgına bağlı kapanma yorgunluk ölçeği ve ruminasyon puanları arasında anlamlı korelasyonlar bulunmuştur (sırasıyla r=0,527 p<0,05; r=0,368 p<0,05). Tartışma: Sağlıklı gençlerde koronafobi ile fiziksel aktivite düzeyi, yorgunluk ve ruminasyon arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Koronafobinin artması, ruminasyon ve yorgunluk algısını artırmaktadır. Bu popülasyonda yüksek koranafobiye sahip bireylerin fiziksel aktivite düzeyleri daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Çalışmanın sonuçları, koronafobi ve ruminasyonun kontrolünün sağlanması için başa çıkma stratejilerinin belirlenmesinin önemini vurgulamaktadır.
