EVIDENCE-BASED SUPPLEMENTARY METHODS FOR SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT

Yıl 2013, Cilt: 1 Sayı: 1, 83 - 98, 02.05.2013

Öz

Patients diagnosed with cancer frequently experience treatment-related symptoms in the course of their diseases. These symptoms adversely affect patients’ quality of life, leading to interruptions in the treatment process. Patients are known to often resort to supplementary methods alongside the medical treatment to resolve such symptoms. Supplementary methods are methods used for supporting the conventional treatment. The main objective in preferring these methods is to raise quality of life and reduce symptoms. However, in order for these methods to serve their purposes, it is of utmost importance that the members of healthcare staff are made aware of such practices, patients are prevented from being harmed or abused, and patients are guided to prefer evidence-based ones of these supplementary methods.
