Evaluation of the World Economic Forum in the context of global actors and risks in the fiftieth year of its foundation

As of today, the World Economic Forum is a non-governmental organization that offers an environment of dialogue from various circles to actors, especially economy and politics. In addition to year-round events in different parts of the world, solution proposals are offered for the problems regarding the course of the world economy based on observations in the Davos Forum every year. 21-24 January 2020 Davos Summit was held in an environment of upcoming US elections, post-Brexit talks between the UK and EU, natural disasters occurring in Australia, first discussions on Covid-19 virus emerging in China, and political and economic uncertainties caused by immigration in some parts of the world, especially in the Middle East. At the end of the Fiftieth Summit of the World Economic Forum, the risks that arise from global warming and threaten at least the next decade that humanity should face recently were mostly presented as the main areas of problem. Actually, the Davos Economic Forum, which was accused of not being able to go beyond the showcase of the wealthy club by different circles, was founded in accordance with the conditions of the era and gained a global reputation but did not adopt a coercive or supervisory mechanism, and it had continued to be a platform for dialogue.

Kuruluşunun ellinci yılında Dünya Ekonomik Forumu'nun küresel aktörler ve riskler bağlamında değerlendirilmesi

Günümüz itibariyle Dünya Ekonomik Forumu, başta ekonomi ve siyaset olmak üzere çeşitli çevrelerden aktörlere diyalog ortamı sunan bir sivil toplum örgütüdür. Dünyanın farklı bölgelerinde yıl boyu düzenlenen etkinliklerinin yanı sıra Davos Forumunda her yıl, gözlemlerden yola çıkılarak dünya ekonomisinin gidişatına ilişkin sorunlara yönelik çözüm önerileri sunulmaktadır. 21-24 Ocak 2020 Davos Zirvesi ise dünya kamuoyunun, yaklaşan ABD seçimleri, AB ve İngiltere arasındaki Brexit sonrası görüşmeler, Avustralya’da ortaya çıkan tabi afetler, Çin’de ortaya çıkan Kovid-19 virüsüne ilişkin ilk tartışmalar, Ortadoğu başta olmak üzere dünyanın bazı bölgelerindeki göçlerin yol açtığı siyasi ve iktisadi belirsizlikler ortamında gerçekleşmiştir. Dünya Ekonomik Forumu’nun Ellinci Zirvesi sonunda, daha çok küresel ısınmadan kaynaklanan, insanlığın yakın zamanda yüzleşmesi gereken, en azından gelecek on yılını tehdit eden riskler, temel sorun alanı olarak sunulmuştur. Değişik çevreler tarafından zenginler kulübünün vitrini olmaktan öteye gidememekle itham edilen Davos Ekonomik Forumu gerçekte, döneminin şartları gereği kurularak küresel bir üne kavuşmuş ancak zorlayıcı ya da denetleyici bir mekanizmayı benimsememiş, diyalog platformu olmaya devam etmektedir.
