Öz

Hedge fonlar, uluslararası finansal piyasalardaki önemli oyunculardan biri haline gelmiştir. Hedge fon sektörü, 1990’lı yıllardan itibaren hem aktif büyüklüğü hem de hedge fon sayısı olarak hızla büyümektedir. Tahmini olarak 10.000 hedge fon yaklaşık 2 trilyon $ değerinde aktifi yönetmektedir. Hedge fonlar, hala finansal piyasalar içerisinde küçük bir paya sahiptir. Fakat, hedge fonların finansal piyasalardaki aktif ve etkin rolleri, hedge fonları daha önemli bir konuma getirmektedir. Hedge fonlar da havuz yatırım araçları olmasına rağmen, hedge fonlar, geleneksel yatırım fonlarından ve portföy yönetim şirketlerinden farklı özelliklere sahiptir. Bu çalışmada, hedge fon sektörünün gelişimi ve hedge fonların temel özellikleri incelenmiştir
