EVALUATION OF EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION NETWORK (EBA) CONTENTS IN THE CONTEXT OF SOCIAL STUDIES LESSONS
Öz
The use of technology in education has enabled the development of various digital learning tools by extending learning processes beyond the classroom, thereby contributing to the enrichment of educational environments. The Education Information Network (EBA), developed in Türkiye as part of the FATİH Project, is a digital content platform that supports learning processes and is structured as an ecosystem complementing traditional classroom instruction. The videos, subject explanations, tests, and other content available on EBA enrich the learning environment in social studies classes, facilitate the concretization of abstract concepts, and support interdisciplinary teaching. Teachers’ knowledge of and perceptions regarding this platform play a decisive role in the effective use of EBA. The purpose of this study is to determine how social studies teachers use and evaluate EBA content. In this context, a sequential explanatory design was employed within a mixed-methods research framework. Quantitative data were collected via a survey, while qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interviews. A total of 113 teachers working in public and private schools in Erzincan Province participated in the survey, and interviews were conducted with 15 teachers. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. According to the findings, the vast majority of teachers use EBA to make topics more concrete, reinforce learning, and enhance knowledge retention. Teachers reported that EBA content is simple, practical, and appropriate for students’ levels. However, due to infrastructure and access issues, teachers generally use the EBA platform only during class hours and for short periods. Consequently, it is recommended that strategies be developed to enhance EBA’s potential to support out-of-class learning within social studies courses, that technological access opportunities for students in rural areas be strengthened, and that content be updated in a more interactive manner.
