EVALUATION OF EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION NETWORK (EBA) CONTENTS IN THE CONTEXT OF SOCIAL STUDIES LESSONS

Öz

The use of technology in education has enabled the development of various digital learning tools by extending learning processes beyond the classroom, thereby contributing to the enrichment of educational environments. The Education Information Network (EBA), developed in Türkiye as part of the FATİH Project, is a digital content platform that supports learning processes and is structured as an ecosystem complementing traditional classroom instruction. The videos, subject explanations, tests, and other content available on EBA enrich the learning environment in social studies classes, facilitate the concretization of abstract concepts, and support interdisciplinary teaching. Teachers’ knowledge of and perceptions regarding this platform play a decisive role in the effective use of EBA. The purpose of this study is to determine how social studies teachers use and evaluate EBA content. In this context, a sequential explanatory design was employed within a mixed-methods research framework. Quantitative data were collected via a survey, while qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interviews. A total of 113 teachers working in public and private schools in Erzincan Province participated in the survey, and interviews were conducted with 15 teachers. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. According to the findings, the vast majority of teachers use EBA to make topics more concrete, reinforce learning, and enhance knowledge retention. Teachers reported that EBA content is simple, practical, and appropriate for students’ levels. However, due to infrastructure and access issues, teachers generally use the EBA platform only during class hours and for short periods. Consequently, it is recommended that strategies be developed to enhance EBA’s potential to support out-of-class learning within social studies courses, that technological access opportunities for students in rural areas be strengthened, and that content be updated in a more interactive manner.

SOSYAL BİLGİLER DERSLERİ BAĞLAMINDA EĞİTİM BİLGİ AĞI (EBA) İÇERİKLERİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Öz

Eğitimde teknolojinin kullanımı, öğrenme süreçlerini sınıf ortamının ötesine taşıyarak çeşitli dijital öğrenme uygulamalarının gelişmesine olanak sağlamış ve eğitim ortamlarının zenginleşmesine zemin hazırlamıştır. Türkiye’de FATİH Projesi kapsamında geliştirilen Eğitim Bilişim Ağı (EBA), öğrenme süreçlerini destekleyen dijital bir içerik platformu olup, yüz yüze öğretimi tamamlayıcı bir ekosistem olarak yapılandırılmıştır. EBA bünyesinde yer alan videolar, konu anlatımları, testler ve diğer içerikler sosyal bilgiler derslerinde öğrenme ortamını zenginleştirmekte, öğrenmeyi somutlaştırmakta ve disiplinler arası öğretimi desteklemektedir. Öğretmenlerin bu platforma ilişkin bilgi düzeyleri ve algıları, EBA’nın etkili kullanımında belirleyici bir rol oynamaktadır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin EBA içeriklerini nasıl kullandıklarını ve nasıl değerlendirdiklerini belirlemektir. Bu bağlamda, karma araştırma yöntemi kapsamında sıralı açıklayıcı desen kullanılmıştır. Nicel veriler anket aracılığıyla, nitel veriler ise yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yoluyla toplanmıştır. Erzincan ilinde devlet ve özel okullarda görev yapan toplam 113 öğretmen anket çalışmasına katılmış, 15 öğretmenle ise görüşme gerçekleştirilmiştir. Nicel veriler betimsel istatistikler kullanılarak, nitel veriler ise içerik analizi yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre öğretmenlerin büyük çoğunluğu EBA’yı konuları somutlaştırmak, öğrenmeyi pekiştirmek ve kalıcı hâle getirmek amacıyla kullanmaktadır. EBA içeriklerinin sade, kullanışlı ve öğrenci düzeyine uygun olduğu ifade edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte, altyapı ve erişim sorunları nedeniyle öğretmenlerin EBA platformunu genellikle ders saatleriyle sınırlı ve kısa süreli kullandıkları belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, sosyal bilgiler dersleri kapsamında EBA’nın okul dışı öğrenme süreçlerini destekleme potansiyelini artırmaya yönelik stratejilerin geliştirilmesi, kırsal bölgelerdeki öğrencilere teknolojik erişim imkânlarının güçlendirilmesi ve içeriklerin daha etkileşimli biçimde güncellenmesi önerilmektedir.
