STALK, TRACING THE SELF
Abstract
Stalk has recently
gained a conceptual meaning as tracing on social media networks. The
"Stalker" as the subject who traces, has entered the audiences’ life
perhaps the most influential and shocking way with Tarkovsky’s film. Stalker is
a guide to trail to the forbidden area; a vehicle carries to not known,
wondered, and delivers what is desired to be seen. This unknown zone
constitutes a similarity to on-line social networks. In the real world, the
individual who has moved away from the real communication, is in need of
creating a new self to trace, and has become following others at the same time
in this zone. Stalked subject constantly re-frames the self in the region in
which s/he knows that s/he is also followed by stalkers. As long as the person
has the consciousness of being watched, this exposition continues and s/he
delivers her/his self to the fingertips of those who traces it. With the image
of being represented/framed in the area where s/he is the subject of the stalking,
it has actually turned into an object that has now presented her/his self to
the stalker. Our aim, in this context, is to discuss how people in the social
media framed themselves as a visual image/object.
