STALK, TRACING THE SELF

Abstract

Stalk has recently gained a conceptual meaning as tracing on social media networks. The "Stalker" as the subject who traces, has entered the audiences’ life perhaps the most influential and shocking way with Tarkovsky’s film. Stalker is a guide to trail to the forbidden area; a vehicle carries to not known, wondered, and delivers what is desired to be seen. This unknown zone constitutes a similarity to on-line social networks. In the real world, the individual who has moved away from the real communication, is in need of creating a new self to trace, and has become following others at the same time in this zone. Stalked subject constantly re-frames the self in the region in which s/he knows that s/he is also followed by stalkers. As long as the person has the consciousness of being watched, this exposition continues and s/he delivers her/his self to the fingertips of those who traces it. With the image of being represented/framed in the area where s/he is the subject of the stalking, it has actually turned into an object that has now presented her/his self to the stalker. Our aim, in this context, is to discuss how people in the social media framed themselves as a visual image/object.

STALK, BENLİĞİN İZİNİ SÜRMEK

Öz

Stalk, son dönemlerde sosyal medya ağlarında iz sürme şeklinde kavramsal bir anlam kazanmıştır. İzi süren özne olan “Stalker” belki de en etkili ve sarsıcı şekilde bir Tarkovski filmiyle izleyicilerin hayatına girmişti. Stalker girilmesi yasak olan bölgeye giden izi süren bir rehberdir; bilinmeyene, merak edilene ve görülmek istenene ulaştıran bir vasıta. Bu bilinmeyen bölgenin (zone), günümüzde çevirim içi sosyal ağlar bir benzerini oluşturmuş ve gerçek dünyada, gerçek iletişimin izinden uzaklaşan birey sanal bir gerçeklik inşası arayışıyla hem kendi izinin sürüleceği bir benlik yaratma ihtiyacı edinmiş hem de bu bölgede başkalarının izini sürer hale gelmiştir. İzi sürülen özne bulunduğu bu bölgede, kendinin bilinmeyenler (stalkerlar) tarafından da izlendiğinin bilincinde olarak benliğini sürekli yeniden çerçeveler. Bu teşhir, gözetlendiğinin bilincine sahip olduğu sürece devam eder ve kişi benliğini, izini sürenlerin eline teslim eder. İzi sürülen özne olan ben bulunduğu bölgede temsil edilen/çerçevelenen imgesiyle, aslında artık stalker’a kendini sunmuş olan nesneye dönüşmüştür. Bu bağlamda çalışmamız, sosyal medyada kişinin kendini seyirlik bir imge/nesne olarak nasıl çerçevelediğini tartışmayı amaçlamaktadır.
