TECHNOLOGY-HUMAN RELATIONSHIP AND THE INFLUENCE OF TECHNOLOGY ON GUIDING THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

Abstract

Man’s relationship with technique starts with his will to exist and lead a better life. Therefore, as people become more socialized, their effort to improve the existing techniques in professions in every aspect of life is clearly observed. The field of music has a similar kind of relationship with technique as well. As the improvements in the music technology have helped the music industry progress, the improvements in the recording technology in particular have paved the way for changes in the music appreciation. Thus, the difference between the analogue and digital recording periods should not be solely discussed in terms of technology. This difference should also be considered as a historical critical point which allowed new types of music to emerge. This change is observed in various areas such as the production of music or the spread of it in the music market. This study focuses on the general effect of music related technical improvements on music, and it aims at explaining the change that has arisen and been observed from the production of music to the spread of it. While the effects of the improvements in the music industry are analysed in various dimensions, aesthetic and sociological improvements brought about by the changes in the recording technologies will be reviewed from a historical perspective.

TEKNOLOJİ-İNSAN İLİŞKİSİ VE TEKNOLOJİNİN MÜZİK ENDÜSTRİSİNİ YÖNLENDİRME ETKİSİ

Öz

İnsanın teknik ile olan ilişkisi var olma ve yaşamını daha iyi koşullarda sürdürme arzusu ile başlamaktadır. Bu nedenle, giderek toplumsallaşan insan yaşamın tüm alanlarında yer alan mesleklerdeki mevcut tekniği geliştirme çabası açıkça gözlenir. Müzik alanı da teknik ile benzer bir ilişki içindedir. Müzik teknolojisindeki gelişmelerin müzik endüstrisinin gelişimini sağlaması ile özellikle kayıt teknolojisindeki gelişmeler aynı zamanda müzik anlayışındaki değişimlerin yolunu açmıştır. Bu yüzden analog ve dijital kayıt dönemleri arasındaki fark sadece teknoloji açısından ele alınmamalı, aynı zamanda yeni müzik türlerinin ortaya çıkmasına olanak tanıyan tarihsel bir değişim noktası olarak kabul edilmelidir.  Bu değişim, müziğin üretiminden müzik pazarı içindeki yayılımına kadar gözlemlenmektedir. Bu çalışma, müzik ile ilişkili teknik gelişmelerin müzik üzerindeki genel etkisi üzerine odaklanmakta ve müziğin üretiminden yayılımına kadar gözlenen ve ortaya çıkan değişimleri açıklama amacı taşımaktadır. Müzik teknolojisindeki gelişmelerin etkisi çeşitli boyutlarda incelenirken, kayıt teknolojilerindeki değişim ile ortaya çıkan estetik ve sosyolojik gelişmeler tarihsel bir bakış açısıyla değerlendirilecektir.
