The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus that emerged in Wuhan, China's Hubei province started on December 31, 2019. The epidemic spread swiftly to hundreds of countries, started with the identification of the first positive case in Turkey on March 11, 2020. Since then, the pauses, postponements, and cancellations of sports activities caused by COVID-19 has risen to a challenge for sports physicians, coaches, and trainers in discerning best practices for a safe return to sports. Sports medicine has a multidisciplinary approach, in which different medical specialties work together during diagnosis and treatment to prevent health problems of athletes with the integration of sports dentistry into sports medicine, it will contribute to the prevention of dental caries, dental erosions, periodontal diseases, malocclusions and temporomandibular disorders, and other injuries, as well as the follow-up and treatment of these disorders. In this review, the overall effects of COVID-19 in the world of sports, the situations that may adversely affect the oral-dental and general health and performance of the athletes during the pandemic, the precautions to be taken against it, and suggestions for returning to play for sports at the end of this process are mentioned.
