Quorum Sensing

Öz

Günümüzde hücreler arası iletişim ve işbirliğinin sadece ökaryotlarda olmadığı prokaryotlarda da hücreler arası
iletişimin var olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Bakteriler arası bu iletişim quorum sensing (QS) olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Quorum
sensing bakteriye çok hücreli organizma gibi davranma yeteneği kazandırmaktadır. Bakteriler, diğer bakteriler tarafından
üretilen ve oto indükleyici olarak adlandırılan küçük hormon benzeri molekülleri spesifik deteksiyon sistemleri
kullanarak uyarıcı düzeydeki konsantrasyonlarını tespit eder. Böylece gen ekspresyonlarını ve dolayısıyla davranışlarını
değiştirirler. Bakteri, bu sinyal-yanıt sistemini kullanarak, popülasyon düzeyinde bireysel davranışlarını sekronize eder
ve çok hücreli organizma gibi davranır. Bu makale de prokaryotik hücreler arası ve prokaryot ile ökaryotik hücreler arası
quorum sensing mekanizmaları derlenmiştir.

Öz

Nowadays, cell to cell communication and co-operation has been proved to be not only found in eukaryotes,
but also in prokaryotes. In bacteria, this communication is termed quorum sensing (QS). QS enables bacteria to
act as multicellular organisms. Bacteria determine small hormone-like molecules termed auto inducer which produced
by another bacteria by using specific detection systems. Thus, they transform gene expression, and therefore behavior.
Using these signal-response systems, bacteria synchronize particular behavior on a population wide scale and function
as multicellular organisms. In this article, mechanism of cell to cell communication between prokaryotic cell and prokaryote
and eukaryotic cells are considered.
