Cronobacter sakazakii is an opportunistic pathogen causing meningitis, septicemia and enterocolitis in neonates. The organism is a Gram-negative rod within the family Enterobacteriaceae. Although the pathogen was isolated from different sources, its infections have been linked with powdered infant formulas. It is important to know growth, survival, and inactivation conditions of C. sakazakii and its isolation and identification methods for preventative purposes.
