Examining Burnout Among Academic Staff: The Role of Demographic Factors

Öz

The purpose of this study is to examine whether academics’ burnout levels differ according to demographic variables. Burnout was examined across three dimensions: personal burnout, work-related burnout, and student-related burnout. Data were collected from academic staff through a survey and analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) in IBM SPSS Statistics Version 23. The findings indicate that burnout among academics is most pronounced in the personal burnout dimension. Female, single, younger, and early-career academics were found to have higher levels of burnout. The study contributes to the burnout literature by providing empirical evidence on demographic differences in academics’ burnout levels within the higher education context and offers insights for the development of policies and practices aimed at reducing burnout.
