Art as Grammar: An Inquiry on Wittgensteinen Aesthetics

The picture theory that depicts the relationship between language and the world in Tractatus by Wittgenstein was refuted in his so-called second phase and hence ethics, aesthetics and theology that used to be left outside the realm of sayable propositions as they are beyond the phenomenological world in the first stage were called back into the life of experience. In this second stage, the meaning reveals itself with gestures, facial expressions, actions and their verbal equivalents as opposed to logical propositions of language that were put forth as the mere carrier of the meaning previously. This work inquires the possibility of an aesthetics that departs from ‘language games’ laid out in the second phase of Wittgenstein and comes to be qualified as either “art as grammar” or “grammatical aesthetics”.

GRAMER OLARAK SANATt: WİTTGENSTEİNCİ ESTETİK ÜZERİNE BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Öz

Wittgenstein dil ile dünya arasında Tractatus’ta kurduğu resim teorisinden ikinci döneminde vazgeçmiş, olgusal dünyanın dışında olduğu için hakkında konuşulamayan alanlar olarak vaz ettiği etik, estetik ve teolojiyi bu döneminde deneyim dünyasının içine dahil etmiştir. İkinci döneminde sözcüğün anlamı artık dilsel olarak ifade edilen mantıksal önermeler aracılığıyla değil, sözcüklerle birlikte onlara eşlik eden mimik, jest ve hareketlerin “kullanımları” ile ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmada Wittgenstein’ın ikinci döneminde geliştirdiği dil oyunlarından hareketle “gramer olarak sanat” ya da “gramer estetiği” şeklinde nitelendirilebilecek bir estetiğin imkanı sorgulanacaktır.
