THERMAL ENTRANCE HEAT TRANSFER IN LAMINAR PIPE FLOWS SUBJECT TO PERIODICALLY VARYING AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
Öz
A collocation method of weighted residuals is used to investigate the characteristics of thermal entrance heat transfer in laminar pipe flows subject to periodically varying ambient temperature. The unsteady axial variations of Nusselt number, bulk fluid temperature, and wall temperature with the change in ambient temperature are obtained and are presented graphically for various outside heat transfer coefficients. The effects of non-dimensional heat transfer coefficient on heat transport processes in the flow and the effects of the change in ambient temperature on the corresponding change in heat transfer characteristics are analyzed. The numerical results show that the periodic changes with time in the Nusselt number, bulk fluid temperature, and wall temperature become larger as the outside heat transfer coefficient increases.
