ELECTRORHEOLOGICAL FLUIDS
Öz
Considerable scientific and industrial interest is currently being focused on a class of materials known as electrorheological (ER) fluids. These fluids display remarkable behavior, being able to convert rapidly and repeatedly from a fluid to a solid when an electric field is applied or removed. The ER phenomenon has been known for 50 years but only in last 15 years has it attracted much interest. The ER effect can be exploited in devices such as valves, clutches, dampers, hydraulics and robotics systems. In this review article studies on a number of conventional fluids are reported as well as studies on the electrorheological fluids form ed by poly (t-butyl acrylate-stat-lithium acrylate)-block-polyisoprene copolymers in pentaerythritol
heptanoate.
