Some of the established friendships can be ended in a variety of reasons in the real world and others in the social networks, a part of virtual world. The purpose of this research is to reveal the reasons why Facebook users stay friends with the people they do not know or remove them. First, imaginary Facebook accounts have been created. The application was carried out on the students of Aksaray University. The relationship between the profile photo, gender, educational status and relationship status of fictitious accounts and the friendship behavior of the users were measured. Moreover, the differences in the behavior of maintaining the friendship according to the demographic characteristics of the participants were also analyzed. When the results were examined, it was seen that male users’ maintaining friendship rate was higher than female users. In addition, it was found that the gender of the requesting account, profile photo, education and relationship status had no effect on the participants’ behavior of maintaining friending.
