Background/Aims: False beliefs that early marriages are common, not being seen as a crime, penalizing only in case of complaints, and the attitude towards these marriages are seen as obstacles to preventing early and forced marriages. To develop a valid and reliable scale to determine society's attitude towards early and forced marriages.
Methods: The study's data, designed in a methodological design, were collected from a total of 459 participants aged 18 and over throughout Türkiye. Within the framework of Broken Windows Theory, Theory of Change, Radical Feminist Theory, and Meleis' Transition Theory, the draft scale was composed of 33 items under 4 sub-dimensions. The criterion validity of the scale was tested using the "Attitude Scale Towards Girl Child Marriages."
Results: The final scale consists of 5 sub-dimensions named “Awareness”, “Paternal hierarchy,” “Official control mechanism,” “Social control mechanism,” “Trigger disorder antecedents,” and 21 items. The Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale is .89.
Conclusion: The Attitude towards Early and Forced Marriages scale is a valid and reliable scale that can determine society's attitudes towards early and forced marriages.
