Chemotherapy Induced Taste Alteration and Nursing Care

Öz

The sense of taste is an important sense to maintain the life of an individual. There are many factors that negatively affect the function of the sense of taste. Chemotherapy agents are also included in these factors. Chemotherapy induced taste alteration is a condition commonly experienced by the patients. The taste alterations arise depending on chemotherapy due to the   neurotoxic effects of chemotherapy agents and their effects on taste buds, which are responsible for the sense of taste, and the saliva. Taste alterations vary depending on the chemotherapy type received by patients and other variables. Taste alterations experienced by patients affect them in many ways and reduce the quality of their lives. Individuals’ sense of taste should be evaluated and they should receive treatments in accordance with changes occurred in their taste buds.
