Öz
Kostüm; gösteri sanatlarında sahnede ya da kamera önünde bir gösteriyi sunarken giyilen giyim ve aksesuarlardır. Tiyatroda kostüm, oyunun geçtiği dönemin ve olayın gözümüzde daha iyi canlanması için kullanılır. Sahne sanatlarının vazgeçilmez bir öğesi olan kostüm, sadece görünüm olarak oyuncuya giydirilen bir giysi parçası değil, karakterin anlatımının önemli bir yoludur. Bu sebeple kostüm tasarımında karakterler yorumlanırken, dikkatli ve özenli bir çalışma yapılması gerekir. Bu çalışmada, özellikle tiyatro kostümünün oluşum aşamaları, tiyatronun görsel öğelerine katkıda bulunan diğer dallarıyla olan ilişkisi de göz önüne alınarak incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla, oyun metninin okunması sonrası tasarım yoluyla karakterler yorumlanırken yönetmenle ve aynı zamanda dekor ve ışık tasarımcılarıyla (eğer dekor, kostüm ve ışık tasarımcıları ayrı kişilerse) görüşmelerin son derece önem taşıdığı özellikle belirtilmiştir. Kostüm tasarımı yalnızca giysi tasarımı değildir; saç, makyaj, ayakkabı ve kostüm aksesuarları da tasarımın belirleyici detaylarını oluştururlar. Kostümün yapım aşamasına gelindiğinde ise çizimden kumaş seçimine, kesimden provaya kadar olan aşamalar kostüm tasarımcısının sorumluluk alanındadır. Tüm bunların yanı sıra unutulmaması gereken önemli bir nokta da; kostümün tüm detaylarıyla bir bütün ve parçası olduğu gösteri sanatının içeriğini zenginleştiren ve anlatımına hizmet eden öğelerinden birisi olmasıdır.

İn performing arts a costume represents the vvhole of the clothing and accessories dressed in a stage or in front of a camera vvhile presenting a performance. İn theatre, costumes utilize for visualising the period and scenes in a play. A costume, vvhich is an indispensiable element of the performing arts, is not a visual item of a piece of clothing but it is an important way of expression of the characters in a play. Therefore, interpreting the character in costume design needs a careful and attentive work. İn this study, the formation stages of the costume design analyzed especially by considering the relation with the other visual elements of theatre. For this purpose it is especially like to mention that discussing with the director but also with set and lighting designers (if set, costume and lighting designers are different persons) is extremely important after reading a play’s text for interpreting a character through the design. Costume design is not only a clothing design but also a costume design consists of identifying details such as hair, make-up, shoes and costume accessories. When the subject come to the construction of the costume the steps up to the rehearsal, from dravvings to the choice of fabric and from cutting the fabric to fitting the dress, are in the field of responsibility of the designer as well. İn addition to ali of these subjects there is an important point vvhich should not be forgotten is that a costume is complete vvith ali its details and it is one of the elements vvhich are enriching the content and serving the narrative of the performing art vvhere it is a part of it.
