THE EFFECT OF AN ANIMATED TRAINING PROGRAM ON NURSES’ KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REGARDING BRACHIAL ARTERY BLOOD PRESSURE MEASUREMENT: A SINGLE GROUP, PRE-TEST-POST-TEST STUDY

Aim: This study investigated the impact of an animated training program on nurses’ knowledge of brachial artery blood pressure measurement. Method: This quasi-experimental observational study adopted a single-group, pre-posttest design. The research was conducted in a state hospital between April and June 2022. The sample consisted of 49 nurses. Data were collected using a Nurse Information Form (NIF), a Brachial Artery Blood Pressure Measurement Knowledge Test (BABPMKT), and a Brachial Artery Blood Pressure Measurement Observation Guide (BABPMOG). The animated training program (intervention) consisted of a PowerPoint presentation and an animation. Participants accessed the intervention over a three-week period. The data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, and standard deviations. Results: Participants had a significantly higher mean posttest BABPMKT score (16.73±2.70) than the pretest score (11.20±2.92). They had a significantly higher mean posttest BABPMOG score (23.90±3.31) than the pretest score (18.74±3.17) (p=0.001). Conclusion: The intervention helped all participants learn more about brachial artery blood pressure measurement. It also encouraged them to develop more brachial artery blood pressure measurement skills. Therefore, hospitals should regularly provide nurses with tech-based in-service training programs on brachial artery blood pressure measurement.
