Resimli Çocuk Kitaplarındaki Toplumsal Cinsiyet Eşitliğine Bir Bakış

Society determines gender roles according to its cultural structure. In this dynamic process, roles are assigned to women and men according to their own characteristics. This situation is passed on to children through social learning. Children, who are an important part of society, take actions and behaviors according to their gender. Societies that internalize these actions lead a healthier life than others. Among these, children's picture books are very effective in shaping the behavior and personality of the individual depending on the gender. In this respect, it is important to examine illustrated children's books from different perspectives through linguistic and non-linguistic indicators in the context of gender equality. The research focusing on this is in the nature of a case study which is one of the qualitative research designs. Research data were collected through document review. Fifteen children's novels selected by criterion sampling method were analyzed through forms determined according to categories. In the first stage, descriptive analysis, then content analysis was applied to the data collection; In the second stage, the books were examined thematically in line with the categories. As a result of the research, it was seen that generally gender is dominant and stereotypes are included. On the other hand, it has been determined that male and female characters exhibit behaviors approved by the society and have a traditional appearance physically.

Toplum, kültürel yapısına göre cinsiyet rollerini belirler. Dinamik olan bu süreçte kadına ve erkeğe kendi özelliklerine göre roller biçilir. Bu durum sosyal öğrenme yoluyla çocuklara aktarılır. Toplumun önemli bir parçası olan çocuklar kendi cinsiyetlerine göre eylem ve davranışlarda bulunurlar. Bu süreçte edebiyata özellikle de çocuk edebiyatı ürünlerine önemli görevler düşmektedir. Bunlardan resimli çocuk kitapları bireyin davranış ve kişiliklerinin cinsiyete bağlı olarak şekillenmesinde oldukça etkili olur. Bu açıdan resimli çocuk kitaplarının toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliği bağlamında dilsel ve dil dışı göstergeler aracılığıyla farklı açılardan incelenmesi önemlidir. Bunu merkeze alan araştırma, nitel araştırma desenlerinden biri olan durum çalışması niteliğindedir. Araştırma verileri, doküman incelemesi ile toplanmıştır. Ölçüt örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen 15 çocuk romanı kategorilere göre belirlenen formlar aracılığıyla incelenmiştir. İlk aşamada toplanan verilere betimsel analiz, ardından içerik analizi uygulanmış; ikinci aşamada ise kitaplar kategoriler doğrultusunda tematik olarak incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda, genel olarak toplumsal cinsiyetin baskın olduğu ve kalıp yargılara yer verildiği görülmüştür. Öte yandan kadın ve erkek karakterlerin toplumca onaylanan davranışlar gösterdiği, fiziksel olarak geleneksel bir görünüme sahip oldukları belirlenmiştir.
