THE RANK OF DEMAND SYSTEMS: A CRITICAL REVIEW OF EMPIRICAL LITERATURE FOR TURKEY

Yıl 2015, Cilt: 4 Sayı: 8, 1 - 9, 14.01.2016

Öz

In this study, ‘the rank of demand system’ is developed by Lewbel (1991) recommended as a pre-test in the
selection of parametric demand model system that will be use in order to measure consumption behavior is
explained. When analyzing of studies using demand system models for Turkey, it is realized that model
selection is determined ad hoc without being subjected to any model specification test. In the empirical studies
using demand system models, estimated results is considered to be biased as a result of incorrect model
identification. Therefore, model selection should be done considering the rank test results or use of
nonparametric demand model system is proposed.
