Öz

Aging is a normal process that causes changes in the anatomical structure, physiological functions, social relations, mental abilities, and psychological states of individuals. Factors such as the developments in health and technology since the 20th century, the decrease in the birth rate, the expansion of basic public health services, the improvement of nutritional conditions, and the control of many infectious diseases have led to an increase in life expectancy from birth. This increase is gaining importance as one of the most important social problems of the whole world, especially in developed countries. However, since the experiences related to old age vary from person to person, this period can be considered as a good period for some and a bad period for others. One of the most important factors affecting the characterization of old age as good or bad is that elderly individuals interpret the situation they are in according to their own perspectives. In this study, different studies and opinions in the literature about the quality of life and especially the indicators, dimensions and measurement of quality of life in old age are included. In addition, the factors affecting the perceptions of the elderly regarding aging and the individual perspective on aging are discussed.

Öz

Yaşlılık bireylerin başta anatomik yapı, fizyolojik işlevleri olmak üzere sosyal ilişkilerinde, zihinsel yeteneklerinde ve psikolojik durumlarında değişimlere neden olan olağan bir süreçtir. 20. yüzyıldan itibaren sağlık ve teknoloji alanında yaşanan gelişmeler, doğum hızının azalması, temel halk sağlığı hizmetlerinin yaygınlaşması, beslenme koşullarının iyileşmesi, birçok bulaşıcı hastalığın kontrol altına alınması gibi etkenler doğuştan beklenen yaşam süresinin artmasına neden olmuştur. Bu artış özellikle gelişmiş ülkeler başta olmak üzere bütün dünyanın en önemli toplumsal sorunlarından birisi olarak önem kazanmaktadır. Ancak yaşlılık ile ilgili deneyimler kişiden kişiye değiştiğinden dolayı bu dönem kimileri için iyi kimileri için ise kötü bir dönem olarak değerlendirilebilmektedir. Yaşlılığın iyi veya kötü olarak nitelendirilmesine etki eden en önemli faktörlerden birisi yaşlı bireylerin içinde bulundukları durumu kendi bakış açılarına göre yorumlamalarıdır. Bu çalışmada yaşama kalitesi ve özellikle yaşlılıkta yaşam kalitesinin göstergeleri, boyutları ve ölçümüne ilişkin literatürde yer alan farklı çalışmalar ve görüşlere yer verilmiştir. Ayrıca yaşlıların yaşlılığa ilişkin algılarını etkileyen faktörler ve yaşlılığa ilişkin bireysel perspektif bakış açısı ele alınmıştır.
