Color, which is the perception of the reflection of light on objects in the retina of our eyes, was obtained from natural dyestuff sources in the past. While some of these resources were used for dyeing carpets, rugs and other weaving threads in the past, they are now being used in the fields of textile, food and cosmetics. Gaziantep, which is one of the important settlements of many civilizations from the past to the present, is located in the transition region in terms of its geographical location and climate, as well as its rich culture. This is the reason for the diversity in vegetation.
In the study, literature review, field research, weaving analyzes and document research method in the Ottoman Archives of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the Presidency of State Archives were used to determine the dyestuff sources. The dyestuff analysis used in Gaziantep carpets was made and it was determined from which natural dyes the colors used were made. In addition, the dye plants that were traded and used in dyeing in the Ottoman Archives of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the Presidency of State Archives and the dyehouses in Gaziantep were also documented.
