The Relationship Between Nomophobia and Caring Behaviors Among Nurses: Cross Sectional and Descriptive Study

Objective: To investigate the nomophobia scores among nurses and examine the correlation between these scores and caring behaviors. Methods: The descriptive and cross-sectional study sample consisted of 197 nurses working in a private hospital. Data was collected between November 2021 and March 2022. Information form, The Nomophobia Questionnaire, and Caring Behaviors Inventory-24 were data collection tools. Results: The mean age of the participants was 27.14±6.69 years, and the majority were female (80.2%), single (69%), and had a bachelor's degree or higher (35.5%). The daily duration of cell phone use was 6.05±4.03, and daily internet use was 5.05±3.95. The mean nomophobia score was found to be "moderate" at 80.37±23.99, while the mean score for caring behaviors was high at 5.53±0.56. A significant correlation was found between nomophobia and factors such as age, years of employment, work unit, shifts, and mobile phone usage habits (p<0.05). There was a statistically significant weak negative correlation between the care behaviors and the nomophobia (p<0.05). Conclusion: Among nurses, higher nomophobia scores were associated with lower caring behavior scores. It is recommended to develop coping strategies for nomophobia, particularly for young nurses working in shift-based environments.

Hemşirelerde Nomofobi ve Bakım Davranışları Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi: Kesitsel ve Tanımlayıcı Bir Çalışma

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışmada, hemşirelerin nomofobi düzeyleri ile nomofobi düzeylerinin bakım davranışları ile ilişkisini incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel türdeki bu çalışmanın örneklemini, özel bir hastanede çalışan 197 hemşire oluşturmaktadır. Veriler, Kasım 2021 ile Mart 2022 tarihleri arasında Bilgi Formu, Nomofobi Ölçeği ve Bakım Davranışları Envanteri-24 ile toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Katılımcıların yaşı ortalama 27,14±6,69 olup, çoğunluğu kadın (%80,2), bekar (%69) ve lisans veya üzeri eğitim düzeyine (%35,5) sahiptir. Günlük cep telefonu kullanım süresi ortalama 6,05±4,03 saat, internet kullanım süresi ise 5,05±3,95 saat olarak belirlenmiştir. Katılımcıların nomofobi puan ortalaması 80,37±23,99 ile "orta" düzeyde, bakım davranışları puan ortalaması ise 5,53±0,56 ile yüksek bulunmuştur. Nomofobi ile yaş, çalışma yılı, çalışma alanı, vardiya ve bazı telefon kullanım alışkanlıkları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur (p<0,05). Bakım davranışları ile nomofobi arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı, zayıf bir negatif korelasyon saptanmıştır (p<0,05). Sonuç: Hemşirelerde yüksek nomofobi düzeyleri, daha düşük bakım davranışı düzeyi ile ilişkili bulundu. Özellikle nöbetli alanlarda çalışan genç hemşireler için nomofobi ile başa çıkma stratejilerinin geliştirilmesi önerilmektedir.
