Developing Nursing Students' Humanistic Care Skills: Systematic Review

Öz

Objective: Humanistic care is defined as competence based on an understanding of the needs and wishes of patients, empathizing with their feelings, communicating effectively, and showing sensitivity to the value of life, to develop therapeutic relationships. This approach plays an important role in improving nursing students' professional competencies and quality of patient care. This study aimed to examine methods used to develop humanistic care skills in nursing students.
Methods: The systematic review included intervention studies contributing to developing humanistic care skills among nursing students. By the inclusion criteria, intervention studies published between 1 January 2004-5 March 2024 were identified through a search of the following databases: MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System), Web of Science, COCHRANE Library, PUBMED and OVID. The terms "humanistic care," "humanistic care competence," and "humanistic care in nursing education" were searched as keywords.
Results: 414 publications were found in the search. The review excluded repetitive publications, publications whose full text was inaccessible, and publications in languages other than English. The full text of 169 publications was accessed and analyzed. The results of analyses indicated three publications met the inclusion criteria and were incorporated into the study. Findings indicate using hypothetical modeling, narrative methods, and randomized controlled studies enhances humanistic care skills of nursing students.
Conclusion: It is recommended further studies on humanistic care competencies of nursing students, utilizing different teaching methods, be conducted to gain a deeper understanding of this subject.

Hemşirelik Öğrencilerinin Hümanistik Bakım Becerilerinin Geliştirilmesi: Sistematik Derleme

Öz

Amaç: Hümanistik bakım, hastaların ihtiyaç ve isteklerini anlamaya, duygularına empatiyle yaklaşmaya, etkili iletişim kurmaya ve terapötik ilişkiler geliştirebilmek için yaşamın değerine saygı göstermeye dayalı bir yetkinlik olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu yaklaşım, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin mesleki yeterliliklerini ve hasta bakım kalitesini artırmada önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, hemşirelik öğrencilerinde hümanistik bakım becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik kullanılan yöntemlerin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Yöntem: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin hümanistik bakım becerilerinin gelişimine katkıda bulunacak müdahale çalışmaları sistematik derleme kapsamına alınmıştır. Bu doğrultuda 1 Ocak 2004 ile 05 Mart 2024 tarihleri arasında yayınlanan müdahale çalışmaları MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System), Web of Science, COCHRANE Library (The Cochrane Collaboration), PUBMED ve OVİD veri tabanları kullanılarak taranmıştır. Taramada anahtar kelime olarak “Humanistic care”, “Humanistic care competence” ve “Humanistic care in nursing education” terimleri kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Tarama sonucunda 414 yayına ulaşılmıştır. Tekrar eden, tam metnine ulaşılamayan ve İngilizce dışı bir dille yazılan yayınlar inceleme kapsamına alınmamış, toplamda 169 yayının tam metnine ulaşılıp incelenmiştir. Tam metin incelemeleri sonucunda dahil edilme kriterlerine uyan üç yayın çalışma kapsamına alınmıştır. Bu çalışmada varsayımsal modelleme, anlatısal yöntem ve randomize kontrollü, nitel tipte uygulanan çalışmaların hemşirelik öğrencilerinde hümanistik bakım becerilerini geliştirdiği sonucuna varılmıştır.
Sonuç: Farklı öğretim yöntemleri ile hemşirelik öğrencilerinin hümanistik bakım yetkinliklerine yönelik çalışmaların hız kazanarak devam etmesi önerilmektedir.
