Prevalence and Progress of Coronavirus in Hemodialysis Patients

Öz

The coronavirus (COVID 19), which first appeared in the Wuhan region of China towards the end of 2019, was later detected in many countries of the world and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Hemodialysis patients are in the high-risk group with their constant visits to health centers, weak immune immunity, and accompanying comorbidities. In this study, we tried to evaluate the prevalence and clinical course of COVID 19 in hemodialysis patients.
Material-Method: Hemodialysis patients who had Covid 19 between September 2020 and December 2020 were included in the study. Diagnosis of Covid 19 errors was diagnosed by positive PCR test or thorax computed tomography.
Results: A total of 984 patients were screened in the study, of which 298 were found to have had Covid 19. The prevalence of patients who had Covid 19 was 30.2%. The mean age of the patients who had Covid 19 was 62.11±13.4 (15-91). The patients were 189 men and 109 women. The mortality rate of the patients was 22.5% (67 patients). While the mean age of the patients who survived Covid 19 was 61.2±13.6, the mean age of the patients who died was 65.1±12.2. A statistically significant correlation was found between advanced age, increase in C-reactive protein (CRP), increase in aspartate aminotransferase, and increase in lactate dehydrogenase with mortality. The most common symptoms were cough and fatigue.
Conclusion: In our study, the prevalence of covid 19 was found to be 30.2%. The mortality rate was found to be 22.5%. A significant correlation was found between advanced age, increased CRP and covid 19-related mortality.

Hemodiyaliz Hastalarında Koronavirüs Prevalansı ve Klinik Seyri/ Prevalence and Progress of Coronavirus in Hemodialysis Patients

Öz

İlk defa 2019 yılının sonuna doğru Çin’in Wuhan bölgesinde baş gösteren coronavirüs (COVİD 19), daha sonra da dünyanın pek çok ülkesinde saptanmaya başlamış ve Dünya Sağlık Örgütü tarafından pandemi ilan edilmiştir. Hemodiyaliz hastaları, sürekli sağlık merkezine gitmeleri, immun bağışıklığı zayıf olması ve eşlik eden komorbideteler ile yüksek riskli grupta yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada hemodiyaliz hastalarında COVİD 19 prevalansı ve klinik seyrini değerlendirmeye çalıştık.
Materyal-Metod: Çalışmaya Eylül 2020 ile Aralık 2020 arasında Covid 19 geçiren hemodiyaliz hastalar alındı. Covid 19 hastalarının tanısı PCR testi pozitif veya toraks bilgisayarlı tomografi ile konfirme edildi.
Bulgular: Çalışmada toplam 984 hasta tarandı, bunların 298’inin Covid 19 geçirdiği saptandı. Covid 19 geçiren hastaların prevalansı %30,2 saptandı. Covid 19 geçiren hastaların yaş ortalaması 62,11±13,4 (15-91) olarak tespit edildi. Hastaların 189 erkek ve 109 kadındı. Hastaların mortalite oranı %22,5 (67 hasta) tespit edildi. Covid 19 atlatan hastaların yaş ortalaması 61,2±13,6 iken ölen hastaların yaş ortalaması 65,1±12,2 olarak saptandı. İleri yaş, C reaktif protein (CRP) artışı, aspartat aminotransferaz artışı ve laktat dehidrogenaz artışı ile mortalite arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki saptandı. En sık görülen semptomu öksürük ve halsizlik olarak saptandı.
Sonuç: Çalışmamız da covid 19 prevalansı %30,2 saptandı. Mortalite oranı %22,5 olarak saptandı. İleri yaş, CRP artışı ile covid 19 bağlı mortalite arasında anlamlı ilişki tespit edildi.
