The Role of Art in Architecture Education and Its Impact on Quality: An Interdisciplinary Conceptual Evaluation

Art cannot be considered solely as an esthetic element; it also stands out as one of the fundamental components that determine quality
in architectural education. Its ability to provide pedagogical depth, offer a multi-dimensional perspective to design, and enrich learning
processes makes art’s function in this field indispensable. Within the interdisciplinary structure of architectural education, art not only
enhances students’ creative thinking abilities but also strengthens their expressive skills, fostering a critical and inquisitive approach. In
these aspects, art is an important factor that supports not only design processes but also the holistic dimensions of educational quality.
When the criteria of MİAK (Association for Accreditation of Architecture Education) and SATEAD (Association for Evaluation and
Accreditation of Art and Design Education Programs), which manage accreditation processes in the fields of architecture and design in
Turkey, are examined comparatively, it is clear that art is directly or indirectly related to quality indicators. In this context, evaluations
of the place of art in architectural education provide a meaningful foundation for developing innovative and sustainable approaches that
contribute to the pursuit of quality in higher education.
