22-Year Lost Intrauterine Device: An Unexpected Finding in the Anterior Abdominal Wall

The intrauterine device (IUD), is a commonly utilized contraceptive technique among multiparous women. Based on the available literature, the incidence of uterine perforation and migration in IUD applications has been documented to range from 0.05 to 13 per 1000 cases. If an IUD is not identified during an ultrasound examination of the uterus and uterine cavity in patients with a history of IUD usage who are seeking examination, further investigation should be conducted to determine the position of the IUD. Following ultrasonography, it is imperative to assess using X-Ray as well as pelvis and abdominal imaging techniques. We report a case of an IUD that was not found in its expected location within the uterus during inspection and ultrasonographic examination. It was detected outside the uterus on X-Ray imaging. The patient had the IUD placed 22 years ago. A pelvic radiograph is necessary for evaluating cases of missing IUDs.

22 Yıldır Kayıp İntrauterin Araç: Ön Abdominal Duvarda Beklenmedik Bir Keşif

İntrauterin araç (RİA), çok doğum yapmış kadınlar arasında yaygın olarak kullanılan bir kontraseptif yöntemdir. Mevcut literatüre göre, RİA uygulamalarında uterus perforasyonu ve migrasyon insidansının 1000 olguda 0.05 ile 13 arasında değiştiği bildirilmiştir. RİA öyküsü olan ve muayene amacıyla başvuran hastalarda, uterus ve uterin kavitenin ultrasonografik incelemesinde RİA görülmezse, RİA’nın konumunun belirlenmesi için ileri değerlendirme yapılmalıdır. Ultrasonografiden sonra X-ray ile birlikte pelvis ve abdominal görüntüleme teknikleriyle değerlendirme yapılması önemlidir. Bu olgu sunumunda, muayene ve ultrasonografik inceleme sırasında uterus içinde beklenen konumunda bulunamayan bir RİA olgusunu bildiriyoruz. RİA, X-ray görüntülemede uterus dışında saptanmıştır. Hastaya RİA 22 yıl önce uygulanmıştır. Kayıp RİA olgularının değerlendirilmesinde pelvis grafisi gereklidir.
