A Bibliometric Analysis of Due Diligence Processes in the International Literature

Yıl 2025, Cilt: 22 Sayı: 56, 152 - 172, 29.12.2025

Öz

Globalization and digitalization require greater sensitivity in businesses' strategic decision-making processes; due diligence plays a critical role in merger, acquisition, investment, and restructuring decisions. The fact that the concept of due diligence serves as a strategic guide for decision-makers has led to growing interest in this concept in the literature. Therefore, this study analyzed 2,559 studies on the concept of due diligence conducted between 1976 and 2025 in the Scopus database using the R statistical program. The aim is to provide foresight for future studies. According to the findings of the study, the most frequently used keywords in the literature are “risk assessment,” “human,” “United States,” “decision-making,” and “women.” An examination of the trend analysis results shows that in the early stages of the literature, the concept of due diligence was associated with financial terms. By the 2010s, the impact of regulation became apparent, while from 2018 to the present, the focus has been on environmental and ethical issues such as human rights, sustainability, and climate change. The study recommends that future researchers examine blockchain technology in the context of due diligence and conduct in-depth research on the role of artificial intelligence in decision-making processes.
