Humor is a phenomenon that requires social reasoning. This article deals with a humor translation analysis based on the German and Turkish dubbing of the American sitcom series Modern Family. The examples for analysis were randomly selected from various episodes. For the theoretical framework, a number of important theories of humor, humor translation, and the translation of audiovisual media are examined in detail. The analysis is intended to provide an answer to the ever-present question of the (un)translatability of humor. For the analysis of the texts and dialogues, an analysis set was compiled consisting of the humor techniques of Juckel, Bellman and Varan, the taxonomy of humorous elements of Martinez-Sierra, and the translation strategies of Vinay and Darbelnet. Each example consists of three parts presenting the source text and the target texts in German and Turkish. Finally, for the evaluation of the target texts, detailed explanations on whether the humorousness is still present and the comparison of the respective languages are given.

Humor Translationsanalyse anhand der deutschen und türkischen Synchronisierung der Sitcom-Serie Modern Family

Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit einer Humortranslationsanalyse anhand der deutschen und türkischen Synchronisation der Sitcom-Serie Modern Family. Die Analysebeispiele wurden zufällig aus verschiedenen Folgen ausgewählt. Humor ist nicht nur eine reine Form der Unterhaltung, sondern ein komplexes menschliches Phänomen, das tiefgehende soziale Schlussfolgerungen und kulturelle Kontextualisierungen erfordert. Dazu gibt es einige wichtige Theorien, die im Laufe der Arbeit ausführlich ausgeführt werden. Die Analyse soll eine Antwort auf den Vorwurf der Unübersetzbarkeit von Humor bieten. Für die Analyse der Texte bzw. Dialoge wurde ein Analyseset zusammengestellt, das aus den Humortechniken von Juckel, Bellman und Varan, der Taxonomie humoristischer Elemente von Martinez-Sierra und den Übersetzungsstrategien von Vinay und Derbelnet besteht. Jedes Beispiel besteht aus drei Teilen, die jeweils den Ausgangstext und die Zieltexte auf Deutsch und Türkisch vorführen. Unter der Auswertung der Zieltexte findet sich abschließend ein Kommentar zum Humoreffekt, ob dieser noch vorhanden ist und eine ausführliche Begründung der Unterschiede in den jeweiligen Sprachen.
