Haruki Murakami’s novel Wild Sheep Chase depicts the journey of the protagonist who seeks an extraordinary sheep that controls the person it encountered and provides a critical overview of Japan’s colonialist political history and capitalist media and advertising industry. The aim of this study is to focus on the sheep image in the novel and to examine the phenomena such as imperialism, exploitation, capitalism, modernism and power by associating them with the concept of Sheep. In the novel, Sheep used various characters with different political views such as the “Boss” who is a right-wing politician with unlimited power, as well as the Sheep Professor who conducted agricultural research for the colonial activities of Japan in Manchuria and Rat, the radical leftist, entering into them to perform his malicious purposes. The protagonist, on the other hand, questions Japan’s unnatural modern capitalist system during his search for the Sheep.
