Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of nurses related to catheter-associated urinary tract infections control precautions.
Material and methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 185 nurses who agreed to participate in the study between November-December 2018 at a hospital in the eastern region of Turkey. Data were collected by using the Descriptive Characteristics Questionnaire and Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections Control Precautions Scale.
Results: The mean age of the nurses was 29.15 ± 6.75 years. According to the findings of the study, the mean total score of the Catheter-Related Urinary System Infections Control Measures Scale was 64.05 ± 7.25. In addition, the mean total score of the scale was found to be significantly higher in the nurses who received training on infection control measures (p <0.05).
Conclusion: According to the research, the nurses’ total score of the Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections Control Precautions Scale was found to be high. Additionally, it was determined that the level of knowledge did not increase as the years of employment and age increased.
