The Influence of Sleep Habits and Sleep Problems on Some School Functions of Elementary School 2nd Level Students

Öz

Aim: This study was carried out to with the aim to evaluate the influence of sleep habits and sleep problems on some school functions of elementary school 2nd level students. Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 203 students attending to primary 2nd level of a school in Çankaya district of Ankara. A questionnaire form prepared by researchers was used for data collection. Data were collected in classroom environment based on self-reporting of students between 14 -16 April 2008. Means, percentages and logistic regression (backward method) analysis were used in evaluation of the data. Results: In the study, sleeping after 10:00 pm and waking-up before from 08.00 am, not making the decision about sleeping time, dissatisfaction about sleeping time, getting support for waking up, having difficulties in falling asleep, feeling sleepiness during daytime, noises at the bed room because of television etc., were identified as risk factors affecting the school functions adversely.along with various demographic variables, such as gender and having to go to courses. Conclusion: At the end of the study, it was determined that sleeping habits of students and sleeping room have negative features, students have sleep problems and these conditions have negative effects on school functions.

İlköğretim 2. Kademe Öğrencilerinin Uyku Alışkanlıkları ve Uyku Sorunlarının Bazı Okul Fonksiyonlarına Etkisi

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışma, ilköğretim 2. kademede öğrenim gören öğrencilerin uyku alışkanlıkları ve uyku sorunlarının okul fonksiyonları üzerine etkisini değerlendirmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Kesitsel türdeki bu çalışma Ankara ile Çankaya ilçesinde yer alan bir ilköğretim okulunun 2. kademesinde öğrenim gören 203 öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. Verilerin toplanmasında araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanmış olan anket formu kullanılmıştır. Veriler sınıf ortamında öğrencilerin öz bildirimine dayalı olarak 14–16 Nisan 2008 tarihleri arasında toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde ortalama, yüzde değerleri ve lojistik regresyon (backward metodu) analizi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmada her bir okul fonksiyonu için farklı olmak üzere uyuma saatinin 22.00'dan sonra ve uyanma saatinin 08.00'dan önce olması, uyuma saatine kendi karar vermeme, uyuma saatinden memnun olmama, sabah uyanmada destek alma, uykuya dalma sorunu yaşama, gündüz uykululuk hissetme, uyunulan odada televizyon ve başka gürültü kaynaklarının olması yanı sıra cinsiyet, kursa devam etme gibi demografik değişkenler okul fonksiyonlarını olumsuz etkileyen risk faktörleri olarak belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Araştırma sonunda öğrencilerin uyku alışkanlıklarının ve uyunulan çevrenin olumsuz özelliklere sahip olduğu, öğrencilerin uyku sorunları yaşadıkları ve bu durumların okul fonksiyonları üzerinde olumsuz etkisi olduğu saptanmıştır.
